On The Air Since 2003

After graduating from Western Washington University with a degree in communications, I had the idea that I wanted to be a game show host. Still do! Well, all the best started in radio, so I looked around and found that Bates Technical College in Tacoma had a radio course and station on 91.7 FM, “Tacoma’s Classical Rock.” I worked hard in those classes to get on air as quickly as possible, and it became almost a daily occurrence. I’d start each shift with Kenny Loggins’ classic “Footloose,” where I learned how to talk over the intro music, give all the information, and hit the post — where the lyrics start.

The instructor was Willy Kelly, an afternoon host at KGY in Olympia in the 80s, so when they called looking for a part-timer, he sent them my name. From there, I picked up any shift I could at the KGY studios, where the cedars meet the sea — overnights, Sunday mornings, it didn’t matter.

After a while, an opening at KMAS in Shelton came up, and I sent in my audition tape and met with the Program Director, Steve George, and the owner, Dale Hubbard, and I started again as part-time but more consistently. I quickly moved to afternoons for a while before settling in as the morning host, which I’ve done for over 20 years now. In 2023, with my partners John & Rachel Hansen, we purchased the station from iFIBER Communications and returned it to its local and musical roots.
